It took the Russians and Americans less than a week to go from half-hearted negotiating efforts to full-blown recriminations. Each side has effectively accused the other of making a deal with the devil and choosing war over peace in Syria. Will this exchange of verbal fire transpire into an actual confrontation between major powers and what would that mean for the millions caught in the middle?
