A new report showing high poverty rates makes the US seem more like a third-world nightmare. The US poverty rate has skyrocketed under the Obama administration with one in seven Americans considered poor in 2009. Atlantic's Derek Thompson explains that a lot of welfare programs are in place, but people are opposed to the government creating anymore
